A Jubilee Delegation from the U.S. gathered at a table in the side room of a restaurant with Zapatista sympathies. Gathered with us were Gloria Gonzales of the San Cristobal Jubilee Circle and a couple of women who created a feminist community together (group of ten, in this case). When they first gathered, their purpose was to overcome their feelings of powerlessness as poor women in patriarchal structures of home and society.
 

Protests happen regularly outside of Citizens’ Bank because ICE banks there. Citizens’ does business in the northeastern U.S. Chase Bank, the largest in the U.S., makes fossil fuel and defense funding possible with massive loans. These are not good choices for where to keep our money.

Samira Siddique is director of strategic initiatives at the Center for Earth Ethics. She has extensive experience in global climate change justice, spanning the politics of aid and development, climate displacement, and movement building around the spiritual, ethical and cultural dimensions of the climate crisis. She is an adjunct faculty member at Columbia Climate School.
